Denis Yashin’s live painting performances primarily take place in public settings – as part of exhibitions, events and collaborations. In these performances, not only the emerging painting but also the process of its creation becomes a visible part of the work itself. What remains in a finished abstract painting only as the trace of a past movement can here be experienced in real time: sound, movement and material respond to one another directly. The resulting work is both the outcome and the document of this process.

The physical act itself becomes immediately visible. Loudspeakers set the painting surface in motion and transmit sound waves directly into the material. The paint begins to move through acoustic vibration, leaving traces across the surface.
